As with most things it is better to start a detox on a gradient. A superficial detox can clear the blood of toxins and bring about a general feeling of wellness. However, the main area for concern with a detox is the digestive system. When there is an issue with the digestive system germs can begin to thrive, and even food can become toxic. If this is prolonged then the body can become weak and prone to many deficiencies and disease. Germs can only survive in an unnatural and unclean body. Germs can cause infection only in a susceptible host, pathogens cannot overcome a clean, fit and healthy body. How many times have you been out drinking beer, eating pizza, deserts, and more beer. You certainly don&#8217;t feel good the day after. A few pimples might appear on your face, low energy, sluggish digestion, and many other manifestations of what occurs when your body is polluted. With such a weakened immune system you may even develop a cold. Therefore, if the body is detoxed, good health can be obtained.</p>
<p>It is unrealistic for people living in the modern age to engage in a lengthy detox, so a series of gentle detox programmes is perfect. After all, it may have taken a person 20 years to get into their current state &#8211; a sudden and deep detox may be too much of a shock to the system. You can start with a 24 hour detox, a week later a 3 day detox.</p>

<p>The benefits of a detox are well known &#8211; the number of detox centers that have appeared over the last few years is a testament to this. Apart from obvious detox benefits such as more energy and vigour, efficient digestion, improved immune system and better skin complexion your clarity of mind improves, with a vast reduction in &#8220;mental chatter&#8221;.</p>
<h2>Side Effects</h2>
<p>It is not uncommon to experience headaches during the beginning of a detox as your body is dealing with the dramatic reduction of its daily poisons. This is why reducing caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol is important before one starts. Reduced energy during the beginning of a detox has also been been reported.</p>
<h2>Before the Detox</h2>
<p>If you are on any medication or have any health concerns then consult your doctor. Try and cut down or eliminate caffeine, nicotine, alcohol a couple of days prior to the detox if possible. Avoid strenuous exercise like running, try walking, yoga, or pilates instead.</p>
<h2>After the Detox</h2>
<p>It is unrealistic to cut out all foods that may have a negative effect on the body. The 80/20 rule is a good guide after the detox. Basically you can be good 80% of the time, the rest of the time add in a little naughtyness!</p>
<h2>General Guides</h2>
<p>During the detox it is very important to get enough sleep &#8211; especially during the early stages. This is not as important during the 24 hour detox. The number of hours for a person to sleep varies, but as a genreal rule one hour before is better than one hour after i.e. go to bed earlier and rise earlier.</p>
<p>A good amount of water, at least 1 and a half litres per day is essential. Do not go to extremes with this however as anything in extremes is dangerous. Herbal tea or even warm water is very beneficial during a detox, as this boosts your metabolism. Try warm water with some fresh lemon juice</p>
<p>Try and cut back on solid food, try a broth made from warm water and vegetables. Salads are the exception, as well as some fruits.</p>
<p>Try this recipe for herbal broth:<br />
Chop 3-4 whole, unpeeled potatoes<br />
3-4 stalks of celery<br />
Handful of green leafy vegetables<br />
Herbs to taste<br />
Place in 1 and a half litres of water and simmer for 20 minutes. Blend and then strain.</p>
<h2>1-3 Day Detox</h2>

<p>Mid morning:<br />
Glass of warm water with lemon</p>
<p>Lunch:<br />
Electrolyte broth<br />

<h2>What is it?</h2>
<p>Photoreading is a technique which uses a &#8220;whole mind&#8221; approach to studying, so it differs from &#8220;speed reading&#8221;. It also works with any type of subject matter, so it is a very flexible technique.</p>
<h2>Basic outline of technique</h2>
<h3>Prepare</h3>
<p>Before you start on endevcour you must have a purpose. With photoreading this means stating a definate desired outcome for reading. It may be that you want to understand the fundamentals of something so you won&#8217;t be lost in a conversation about the given subject. It may be that you want the answer to a specific problem you are working on. Whatever it is the first step is purpose.</p>
<p>Along with this step is conditioning yourself to be in a state of &#8220;relaxed alertness&#8221;. This really is a state of calmness, not letting your mind race ahead of itself. An analogy would be when children are playing, not a care in the world!</p>
<h3>Preview</h3>
<p>This step, as the name suggests, is previewing the given subject. Think of it as an inverted pyramid, where learning on a granular level would be the tip of the pyramid and a complete covering of the subject would be the inverted base of the pyramid. A working from the whole to the the parts.</p>
<p>First you survey the material. Again this is not concentrating on the granular detail, really browsing through pages, letting the subjects key words or trigger words register. Trigger words anchor themselves so later on they and the subject become more real. About five minutes is given for a book. You look at the index page, chapter headings, page headings, and scanning over paragraphs. This stage gives you a mental structure of the material</p>
<h3>Photoread</h3>
<p>The photoreading technique begins again with the alert relaxed state of mind. Now you adjust your vision to the &#8220;photo focus&#8221; state. This means focusing your eyes to the optimum focus for the whole of the page/pages. A sort of &#8220;looking through&#8221; the page. The theory is that the brain performs a pattern matching function and recognises the words and content on the page. You spend literally 1 second on each page, so obviously you may conscioulsy know nothing of what you just looked at.</p>
<h3>Activate</h3>
<p>This is where you bring to the conscious awareness what you have covered. Activation is where you restimulate your mind with questions while exploring parts of what you have read that become more attractive to you. You then &#8220;super read&#8221; these, scanning down each page or column. When you find an area that indicates, then you &#8220;dip into&#8221; it and read it at your normal pace. Other techniques are used at this stage, one of them is mind mapping.</p>
<h3>Rapid read</h3>
<p>This final step is the closest to speed reading, rapidly moving the eyes along each line or sets of lines.</p>
<h2>Benefits</h2>
<p>Not only are there obvious benefits are getting through any information at many times faster therefore saving lost of time during the day and sending productivity through the roof, but others such as improving your memory, sharpening your concentration, reading easier with better understanding. Other manifestations such as improved intuition have also been reported.</p>
