Calculate Your Body Mass Index

By admin • Feb 12th, 2009 • Category: Body

Even better than knowing the ideal weight for your height is to calculate your body mass index (BMI). Body Mass Index is a measurement of fat based on your height and your weight. The body mass index is a reliable indicator of total body fat. The BMI score is valid for both men and women. There are some limits however as it may overestimate body fat in those who have a muscular build and may underestimate bodyfat in older people and those who have lost muscle mass.

Your body mass index can be used to work out whether you are overweight or obese. Here are the scores:

  • Underweight = 18.5 or less
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obese = 30 or more
